MISSION

Studio Garage creates universal works rooted in narrative theatre while fostering artistic and cultural dialogue between Turkish and American communities. Inspired by Turkey's UNESCO-recognized intangible cultural heritage, including shadow puppetry, storytelling, and puppetry traditions, we reinterpret these art forms through contemporary performance. We are committed to making high-quality theatre accessible in the Turkish language for immigrant communities while building meaningful cultural connections through the performing arts.

We create storytelling-driven theater and film works that challenge the separation between performer and audience, inviting imagination, presence, and active engagement. Rooted in traditions of Anatolian storytelling, puppetry, and the use of objects—and informed by the concept of the “empty space” articulated by Peter Brook—the company builds imaginative worlds that encourage audiences to become active participants in the experience.

In addition to its stage productions, Studio Garage develops original film projects and organizes workshops in writing and acting, shaped by its own distinctive narrative language and performance practice. Its approach to acting is informed by the work of Michael Chekhov, Sanford Meisner, and Mike Alfreds, emphasizing presence, imagination, truthful response, and ensemble-based creation. Through these artistic and educational activities, the company approaches theater and cinema as interconnected forms of expression—spaces for encounter, experimentation, and shared imagination.
